IKD: Innovation, Knowledge and Development
An Inter-Faculty Research Centre
Hazel Johnson, Rebecca Hanlin, Andrew Adwera (ACTS)
An Education Partnership grant funded by The British Council, October 2009-March 2011.
The aim of this project was to trial the use of Open University (OU) materials to enhance the analytical, practical and investigative skills of those employed, or wishing to be employed, in social and technical innovation in agriculture, health and sustainable energy in Kenya. The project, carried out in partnership with the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), included a practice-based research and evaluation element, and consisted of three overlapping activities: to provide a cohort of professionals with training in technology policy and innovation research in order to promote their understanding of science, technology and innovation; to enable this cohort to adapt its learning and be able to train others; to use the outcomes and review process to help shape future training efforts by ACTS and potentially by other education and training providers, in consultation with other public and private sector stakeholders.
