The OU Library website is a gateway to a wide range of online information resources that can help you with your teaching, research, module writing or study. You can also find out about the services available to you, such as postal loans, information skills support and the Library Helpdesk.

Here, we have gathered together a selection of useful resources to help you find out more about what's available, and help you to get the most out of the OU Library. You can find more detailed help and support information in the Help and Support area of the Library website.

Introducing the Library

  • Introduction to Library Services - a 30 minute recording to view online. The recording provides an introductory session that explores the online library and is aimed at all staff and students. You will discover how to find information in your subject and be shown some key resources and services. This is delivered using Elluminate software, but you do not need this software yourself to view the session. Click on the Recorded sessions link, and then on the link to the recording of Introduction to Library Services.
  • How the Library can help you in your teaching - a 16 minute recording to view online. The recording provides an introduction to the library services and resources available to Associate Lecturers. It covers online resources, postal loans, referencing support, the IL Toolkit and the library webiste. This is delivered using Elluminate software, but you do not need this software yourself to view the session. Click on the Recorded sessions link, and then on the link to the recording of How the Library can help you in your teaching.
  • Services - Choose from a variety of user categories and see what services are available, including access to online collections and postal loans.

Information skills

  • The Information Literacy for Students page on the Library website outlines the resources currently available to help students develop their skills in finding, evaluating and using information.
  • Information skills for researchers - a website designed by Library Services to help postgraduate researchers use information resources effectively in their research. Includes sections on literature searching, advanced search techniques, and referencing.
