Inaugural Lecture - Raphael Kaplinsky, Professor in International Development

Wednesday 18 July 2007, 4pm, Berrill Lecture Theatre

This lecture will provide a synopsis of the range of challenges which China and India pose to SSA, and identify some of the ways in which opportunities can be maximised and threats minimised.

Professor Raphael Kaplinsky
Raphael Kaplinsky is Professor of International Development at the OU and has researched and advised governments, firms and trade unions in more than 30 countries. Over the past three years he has been instrumental in building a global research network focusing on the impact of China and India on the developing world, personally focusing on their impact on SSA. He currently works closely with the African Economic Research Consortium. Raphael Kaplinsky has a
distinguished publications record and joined the OU in October 2006.
