The Open University (OU) operates a central disabled student services, and also has an office for students with disabilities.

Additionally, each of the thirteen regional offices of the OU has a disability and additional requirements team (DART), which is the first point of contact for OU tutors with disabled students in their group.

The OU has developed a computerised system to facilitate the flow of information about students’ needs. This generates a range of reports for teaching and support staff, informing them of the needs of individual disabled students.

Tutors have online access to advice that relates to teaching and supporting disabled students, and are directed to relevant disability guidance notes about individual disabilities.
