There maybe no indication on a written paper that the student has a mobility or dexterity difficulty – particularly where an electronic presentation is used. However, if the student has used a communication aid from birth there may be some grammatical errors and limitations to the vocabulary due to the range available in those aids that you should take account of.
Handwritten work may not be as legible as normally expected and the style of writing may change within the essay or exam paper.
The paper may have been written to dictation (by an amanuensis) and this may change the style of writing, or it may have been written using scanning and reading speech recognition software, in which case there are no spelling mistakes but some incorrect but similar sounding words may be present. These differences rarely affect the overall content.
Feedback provided electronically or by post may save the student with a mobility difficulty the necessity of coming onto campus or visiting a pigeon hole or notice board. Some students may be grateful for this assistance, others may prefer to be with other students especially when overall results are posted.
It is vital to check their preferences with the individual student.
