If you expect your students to use particular websites for independent study, ask yourself a few questions when assessing their suitability.

  • Does the site have visual appeal and clarity?
  • How useful is the information?
  • Is the language readable and understandable?
  • Is the navigation easy to use?
  • Are help and contact buttons clearly visible?
  • Do the graphics or audio help with understanding, or are they just a distraction?

Importantly, check that websites meet the standards of the Web Accessibility Initiative. This initiative is concerned with accessibility for all, and offers a ten-point checklist of the most important accessibility features.
