Under DDA Part 4 an institution has a duty to anticipate the adjustments that disabled students or applicants might need and, where feasible, to put these adjustments in place in advance.
Anticipatory adjustments should be made for students with all disabilities, and not just for categories of disability which previous students have belonged to.
Such adjustments create a more inclusive environment and can avoid the need for arrangements to be made on an individual basis.
They can also be a cost-effective way of working. As an example, installing clear signs while a building is being built or renovated helps everyone, but the cost would be impossible to justify for an individual student.
