Epilepsy is a hidden disability and most people are able to function normally with medication. Some people learn what triggers a seizure, while others find they can occur at any time.

Those with photosensitivity can find that flickering lights, some older TVs, and computer cathode-ray tube monitors cause seizures. More recent screens with thin film transistor (TFT) LCD displays seem to help many students.

Stress, fatigue and some types of food may also cause seizures, so being able to plan ahead can help enormously. Advice from the student may need to sought before planning field trips and visits abroad.
