The Open University is one of the most remarkable innovations of the 20th century. In the 21st century, it continues to pioneer a radical and multi-modal form of higher education and is unrivalled as a centre of international excellence for the teaching, research and promotion of open, online and distance education.
The International Fellowship Programme is sponsored by the Open University Foundation to facilitate interchange and exploration among the global community that will influence the direction of open education during the next decade.
The programme is aimed at scholars and professional staff working in higher education institutions, government ministries or NGOs related to higher education. The Open University (OU) invites individuals to undertake a Fellowship, normally 3-6 months, based at our headquarters in the UK (Walton Hall in Milton Keynes, situated about 50 km north of London), or in one of the UK regional centres. The only stipulation is that the project or proposal should be related to open, online or distance education; in addition, the project should confer benefit both on the OU and the applicant's home institution or higher education system.
In this way, the International Fellowships will encourage genuine reciprocity and collaboration among Higher Education Institutions.
