Institute of Educational Technology

The Institute of Educational Technology provides the opportunity to study for postgraduate qualifications in online and distance education and in academic practice.

Three qualifications are available in the former: the Masters in Online and Distance Education, with its nested qualifications of Postgraduate Certificate, and Postgraduate Diploma. For the latter, we offer the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP).

The postgraduate programme is based on both the Institute’s long experience of developing open and distance teaching and its highly rated research. The MAODE is delivered through modules which are wholly online and can be studied by students based in Europe and in a wide range of other countries, as well as the UK. The programme is designed to meet the academic and professional needs of practitioners of technology-enhanced teaching and learning, who value flexible study approaches and the opportunity to work collaboratively with a diverse and international student group. It is open to applicants from many different areas of education, training and learning support, who can meet the entry requirements (a first degree conferred by a UK university or other recognised degree-awarding body, or an equivalent qualification) and have access to a good internet connection and a computer meeting the university specification.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice is available to teachers and learner support professionals in higher education in the UK only at this time. It is accredited by both the Higher Education Academy and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Successful completion meets the requirements of both these bodies for membership. The qualification is studied part-time, over two years, again wholly online and in collaboration with a small group of other students in tutor-led groups
