Ever wondered about the history and origins of Mother's Day?

[[[image-0 medium right]]]With Mother's Day just a few days away (Sunday 15th March), we did a quick search using 'one stop search' to see what information is available about the history and orgins behind this celebratory day.

There's a fascinating article by the International Business Times, in written and audio formats, which states that Mother's Day can be traced back to the Greek's celebration of a day in honour of the maternal goddesses.

More recent history of Mother's Day dates back to the 1600's in England when Mothering Sunday was celebrated on the fourth day of Lent which included a church service to honour the Virgin Mary.  Children brought sweets and flowers in order to express love towards their mothers.

Today, Mother's Day is celebrated in several countries including the US, UK, India, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Mexico and Canada among many others.

We found this article in the Regional Business News database which contains the full text of seventy-five business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. It is updated on a daily basis and most articles can be translated into many different languages.
