Fake news is nothing new but today it has greater impact than ever before due to the speed and reach of social media. The good news is that there are tools that can help you get closer to the truth.

Every Friday lunchtime in May the OU Library will be sharing simple tips for spotting fake news. Each tip is based on the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) infographic: How to Spot Fake News.

These 5 minute long events will be broadcast live via the OU Library’s Facebook page at 12noon (BST) on a Friday. The video recording will be made available on the Library’s Facebook Live events page shortly after the event.

Here is the full programme:

  • Friday 5th May: Consider the source & Check the author
  • Friday 12th May: Check the date & Is it a joke?
  • Friday 19th May:  Read beyond & Check your biases
  • Friday 26th May: Supporting sources? & Ask the experts

We hope you can join us!
