An open book with a tree on each half Last Sunday (18th February) the OU Library selected the theme for the weekly twitter event #ShakespeareSunday.

#Shakespeare Sunday has been running for 5 years, founded by @HollowCrownFans – an account which was set up in 2012 after the first Hollow Crown mini-series featuring the plays Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V aired on BBC TV.

The weekly event brings together Shakespeare fans from around the world who are invited to tweet quotes on a theme chosen by either an individual or an organisation. Past theme pickers include actors Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hiddleston and Samuel West, author Anne O’Brien and organisations & institutions Westminster Abbey, The British Library, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, The Public Theater in New York and The Royal Mint.

Sunday's theme, chosen by the OU Library, was “Scholars, teachers, books and learning”.

The event went really well, with the hashtag #ShakespeareSunday trending on twitter at about number 6 in the UK for most of the day. The OU Library’s selected quotations included links to the Shakespeare exhibition on the OU Digital Archive and reached nearly 30,000 twitter users (based on the number of Twitter “impressions”).
