Refresh your digital skills this Learning at Work Week

Learning at work week provides an ideal opportunity to refresh your digital skills. What better way than to use some of the materials provided by Library Services to support your on-the-job learning?

The award-winning Being digital is a collection of freely-available bite-size activities to help you hone your online skills, whether that’s using Twitter, searching smarter, or developing your digital footprint. Recognising that time is precious, each activity takes no longer than 10 minutes to complete and can be done on the go, on a tablet or smartphone.

Succeeding in a digital world is a new free course available on OpenLearn. Aimed at those new to life online, it can also help you to upskill for the workplace. Rooted in real-life scenarios, ‘Succeeding in a digital world’ provides valuable advice on topics such as cultivating a good digital footprint, using social media for career purposes, dealing with information overload, or choosing the right app or online tool for your purposes. It is possible to dip into sections according to need, and if you complete the assessments, to achieve a digital badge.

The online Library itself is a rich resource for workplace learning and career development. OpenTree is an innovative and fun way to engage with Library resources and skills activities, and to connect with OU students and staff.  Anyone with an OU login can access OpenTree, and earn points and badges for accessing online library resources and web pages. It’s also a handy way of keeping track of useful resources you’ve accessed, and recommending them to others. What’s more, the challenges featured on the home screen direct you to resources you might not have come across and in the words of one student, “kick start a journey of discovery”.
