OU Teaching Awards 2018

The Open University Teaching Awards were established to reward exceptional achievements in learning and teaching. Each year, nominations are invited from across the University for both individuals and team awards.

Fiona Teaching Awards 2018We are delighted to announce that Fiona Durham, one of our librarians, was a member of the S111 Questions in Science production team who won the Open University Teaching Award in the Excellence in Innovation category. Congratulations Fiona and well done!

Fiona would also like to acknowledge the work of Anna Hvass who was the original liaison librarian at the start of production for S111 and laid a lot of the groundwork for the library content.

Library activities in the module include using online dictionaries, finding articles, evaluating information and improving search skills.  More in depth information activities chart the scientific research that followed Watson and Crick’s original article on DNA (available from the Library) and a case study looking at the rise and fall of research into polywater in the 1970’s, in the final unit on ‘bad science’. The Library also runs an online tutorial for students on referencing and avoiding plagiarism.
