Computing and IT insight event for OU students

Have you considered the possibility of working in the IT industry while completing your OU studies?

Hear from Open University students who have undertaken software development and testing placements at Allstate, SpotX and Core Systems.

Book your place today to find out how students from backgrounds such as retail, hospitality and archaeology, with no prior IT experience, have taken the plunge to work as software developers and testers while undertaking their Computing and IT studies.

What will happen at the event?

5:30 – 6pm - FREE pizza and networking with your peers and OU students on placement.

6 – 7pm - OU students working in software development at companies including Allstate, SpotX and Core Systems will share their secrets to breaking into the IT industry, how they remain up-to-date within this fast paced industry and will give the low down on what they have been up to during their placement. 

Students will also share their top tips for navigating GitHub, a web-based hosting service for software development projects.  Having your own GitHub account demonstrates to a prospective employer that you are interested in development, and understand the principles of version control. It also allows prospective employers to view your code.

7 – 7.15pm - Our very own Belfast-based Careers and Employability Consultant, Sean Gallagher, will showcase the full range of resources and support on offer from the Careers and Employability Service to help you achieve your career goals.

7.15 – 7.30pm - A question and answer panel with the speakers – ask your own burning questions!
