Frankenstein and the hyena in petticoats

Dates
Thursday, March 28, 2019 - 17:30 to 18:30
Location
The Grand Opera House, Belfast

As part of the Imagine! Festival of Ideas and Politics, this event will take a fresh look at Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein. Dr Alex Barber of The Open University will consider the surprising presence of the author’s mother and father – political philosophers Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin – within the book. Using video clips during the talk, Dr Barber will uncover the influence of Shelley’s parents on this novel, particularly her feminist mother, who was called ‘a hyena in petticoats’.
