fOCUS II can be easily adapted for use by individuals wishing to analyse their own digital video recordings. It has already been used for professional researchers’ and students’ projects. For example:
In the study "Measurement of eye-gaze in Pan troglodytes" by Bethell, E.J., Vick, S.J. & Bard, K.A. (Department of Psychology, University of Portsmouth), fOCUS II was used to conduct a microanalysis of data (using one-zero time-sampling at one-second intervals) collected to determine whether head movement in chimpanzees was indicative of eye movement.
University of the West of England, Bristol students, Lisa Goldsworthy and Natalie Murray, used fOCUS for their project work. Their case studies can be found in the ‘Case studies’ area of this site.
A beta version of a new generation of the software, fOCUS III is now available for trials. For more information, contact observation-skills-project@open.ac.uk
