OpenLearn teacher status given to volunteers.

Do you want to share your knowledge with learners around the world? Are you developing a new course and looking for materials you can use and adapt for free? Think OpenLearn materials are great, but need editing to suit the needs of your students?

OpenLearn is looking for volunteers to trial a new method of editing our content. Feedback will be used to make reworking our study materials easier for everyone in the future, leading to a larger collection of free quality educational resources for all to use.

Anyone volunteering will be given teacher status on OpenLearn, allowing them to easily edit the content within the website. All they need to do is choose an OpenLearn study unit  to amend and send the title to openlearn@open.ac.uk, with Research in the subject line.

We're finding that more and more people are starting to use their Learning Journals as a way of keeping track and making sense of their studies on OpenLearn.  Two of our newest users are Olwyn Shaw and Zoe K, whilst Mike Taperell has been making some great observations for quite a while.  Why not drop by and see how these journals develop?  It is great way to spark discussion or meet people with similar interests.*

If you want to know more about keeping a Learning Journal take a look at the How To Guide and demonstration video on the Getting Started page.

Spotlight on... Modern Languages

It's the time of year for holidaying and no doubt many of you will be heading off to France, Germany or Spain.  But how are your language skills?  Well, whether you're a complete beginner or just looking to re-familiarise yourself with a language, OpenLearn has the language units for you!

For beginners we have:

And for those of you who are more experienced we have:

Don't forget that we have made the MP3s from these units available via DivShare in the Audio Files section of our Multimedia page, whilst our YouTube page has some great videos to help you get along.

Want to practice your skills with a native language speaker, or someone at your own level? Visit the Who wants to practice German and Who wants to speak French forum threads where fluent speakers are offering the chance to chat (there's even an offer to exchange knowledge in German for knowledge in Italian!).  You might also want to set up a FlashMeeting study group.

* Don't forget, to contribute to discussion forums and Learning Journals registered users will need to be logged in.  Non-registered users will need to register.  Registration is completely free and makes no future requirements of you.  You can find out more information on the Getting Started page.
