Open University Awarding Body

OUAB closure and new arrangements

The Open University (OU) has recently carried out an extensive review of the operation of its Awarding Body. After very careful consideration of the business structure and finances by the University’s Executive, it has become clear that the work of the Open University Awarding Body (OUAB) is no longer sustainable in the current financial climate and we have therefore decided to close the OUAB.

The OU’s priority has been to look for a suitable alternative Awarding Body for its current partners. Therefore, we are pleased that City and Guilds have agreed from 1st January 2011 to take on centres that offer qualifications for which City & Guilds is accredited, as well as centres offering qualifications where there is a similar alternative for which City & Guilds is accredited.

OUAB will not be registering any new candidates beyond 31 December 2010, although we will continue to certificate units/qualifications for existing candidates until 31 December 2013, depending on the certification end date.

Please contact us if you have any queries regarding this message, or for any queries about qualifications and certifications
