Background information

Following on from the successful workshop "Accounting in Europe Beyond 2005" held at the University of Regensburg, Germany on 29 September - 1 October 2005, the European Financial Reporting Research Group (EuFin) and the British Accounting Association International Accounting and Finance Special Interest Group (IAFSIG) are pleased to announce a workshop on "Accounting in Europe Post 2005" to be hosted by the Accounting and Finance Research Unit of The OU Business School in Milton Keynes, UK. There will be plenary sessions with distinguished speakers from the accounting profession and academia, as well as research papers.

The EU Regulation on the application of International Accounting Standards (IAS Regulation) had fundamental consequences for the companies concerned and also for the accounting infrastructure in individual member states. The workshop will provide a forum to evaluate the effect of the IAS Regulation on accounting convergence in the EU and to exchange current research results and evidence related to this topic. As the regulatory position stabilises for listed companies, the workshop also provides an opportunity to assess the progress of convergence of financial reporting in unlisted entities.
