The OU LLB (Hons), offered in collaboration with the College of Law, is based on the legal systems of England and Wales. If you're new to study at this level, or are interested in getting a broader picture of law and its place in society, you can start with a broad introductory course Rules, Rights and Justice: An Introduction to Law that gives you a firm grounding in legal concepts and legal thinking, and develops your study skills. You then go on to study four compulsory courses. The rest of your degree is free choice – either study from our selection of Law Option Courses or visit The Open University website to see the huge range of courses available. If you already have a degree from a university in the UK or the Republic of Ireland, you only need to study the four compulsory courses to get your LLB.
If you want to become a solicitor or a barrister, you need a Qualifying Law Degree. The Open University's LLB (Hons), offered in collaboration with the College of Law, is accepted by the professional bodies as a Qualifying Law Degree, subject to certain time and credit transfer conditions. Once you achieve our LLB, you'll get a guaranteed place on the College of Law's highly rated Legal Practice Course.
Our LLB may also suit you if you wish to further your career in areas such as finance, insurance or health services, personnel or advisory work, or just to develop our interest in law.
If you are involved in Company Law, you will want to know about our course Company Law & Practice (W223), in time for the introduction of the Company Law Act 2006. Try our quiz to see how well you know the new Companies Act.
