Orchestra and Chamber Music Club

orchestra in a performance

The OU Orchestra has about 60 members. We give two lunchtime concerts each year, in May and October, and contribute to the OU Carol Concert. We also hold 2 events for local schools to come and experience a full symphony orchestra.

Players should be a minimum of Grade 5 standard, though we really do welcome instrumentalists of this standard who have not played for many years. We do not hold auditions. We have some vacancies for string and orchestral brass players, and there is a waiting list for woodwind. Our website has details of current vacancies. We rehearse on Friday lunchtimes and occasional Sunday afternoons. As well as being musically very rewarding, the orchestra is also very social and great fun!

There are also opportunities to play chamber music, which we can help facilitate. The onus is on the individual to contact others in the Club, although we occasionally put together groups such as a flute choir, strings, mixed ensembles etc. We occasionally provide small groups of musicians to play for University events and functions.

There is a Club mailing list and perhaps more useful is the Orchestra and Chamber Music Club web site, which gives fuller information about the orchestra and concerts.
