Seven a side football

2019 AMT finalistsThe Open University football competition has been running since 1973.

After being run for many years by the OU Football Club it was taken over by the OU Club who now run the tournament and fund the trophies though footballs and other equipment are still supplied by the OUFC.

The competition runs throughout March and April each year. Teams are split into groups for the first round, those doing well in the Group stage go through to the knockout phase of the Arthur Marwick Trophy competition whilst the rest enter the Skellington Plate competition.
Games are played on a full size pitch with full size goals.

Until last year the competition was a six a side tournament, the change to seven a side The Reelers 1994was made as an experiment and we've decided to stick with it again this year. Teams are largely formed from single Units, Areas, Departments, Schools or Faculties but guests are allowed if their work areas don't have a team or have too many players.

The competition is an opportunity for Staff and Students, footballers and non-footballers to play competitive matches in a friendly and sporting manner. All are welcome regardless of age, ability, fitness or sporting allegiance (even Blackburn fans).
