In line with how the Open University is structured geographically, there are thirteen regions or nations in OUSA. However, OUSA has also created three sub-regions or nations to ensure that students studying in the Republic of Ireland and Central Europe have their own distinct representation.
For each of the OUSA regions, nations and sub-regions there is an OUSA forum, whose main objectives are:
The membership of the OUSA forum is made up of delegates from every participating Assembly in its region or nation. Where no formally constituted OUSA Assembly exists, the OUSA forum may co-opt representatives from the respective Catchment Area(s).
The OUSA forum is led by a committee of elected officers: Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Officer. Other posts elected annually at the OUSA Forum Annual General Meeting are: Student Support Link and Disabled Students’ Link. In addition, a Residential School Co-ordinator is also elected each year by the OUSA forum in relevant regions or nations.
The OUSA forum can submit motions to OUSA Conference, the decision making body of OUSA, and is entitled to elect one delegate to attend the event to take part in the debate and discussion.
Each OUSA forum is entitled to issue one Newsletter each year to its entire membership. This is a useful publication in which general information affecting students in the region or nation, or in the wider O U community can be communicated, as well as details about any social events that have been planned.
