The OU has a number of short courses that introduce you to different aspects of computing, online learning and the internet.
TU120 - Beyond Google: Working with Information Online is a practical introduction to making the most of information to help you to become a confident information user. Structured interactive activities help you to learn about topics such as the role of information in today's 'information society', searching for information with electronic tools like databases and internet search engines, and evaluating and managing the results of your searches.
T175 - Networked living: Exploring Information and
Communication Technologies will take you on a journey towards understanding information and communication technologies. You will study examples of ICT systems, learn about the concepts they are based on, and consider the contexts in which they are used. You will also develop the skills needed to learn effectively about ICT systems.
T183 - Design and the Web is a course on design, and how design principles can be applied to the creation of well-designed web pages and websites.
T184 - Robotics & the Meaning of Life: a practical guide to
things that think will introduce you to robotics and the design of intelligent machines. It allows you to investigate the relationship between robots and humans, and to question what it means for a machine to be intelligent in the context of what it means to be human. Even if you are a complete beginner, you will be able to build simulations of autonomous robots according to easy-to-follow instructions.
