Referencing

Once you start using the web for study and research, you'll see how convenient it is to find information that you can use for course notes or assignments.

One of the most important study skills is the ability to summarise information from such other sources in your own words.

Whenever you make use of any information that has been created by someone else, the author and the source must be clearly identified and acknowledged through the use of proper referencing. Providing full and accurate references to material you have used for your research is an important aspect of academic writing.

The main difference between citing an electronic source and a printed source is that for the electronic source you must say when you accessed the source. This is because web pages and documents change quite frequently. Find out further details of how to cite an electronic resource in the Open Library helpsheet on Referencing.
