Professional biography

I am a British Mathematician in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The Open University, the UK’s distance-learning university, where my principal role is Director of the Open University’s Mathematics MSc programme.

A graduate of the University of Bristol and the University of Warwick, I am a former Deputy Director of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge, and have taught at the University of Exeter, the University of Stirling and King’s College, Cambridge.

Research interests

My mathematical research is in nonlinear dynamical systems and its applications, with particular interests in renormalization theory and applications in energy systems.  Please see my personal website www.benmestel.com/research/
