Research interests

I have a wide variety of research interests centred around theoretical and computational techniques, especially Monte Carlo simulations. Currently, my main research activity is in the following areas:

Mathematical Biology / Biophysics - Cardiovascular systems and diseases. Tissue engineering.

Theory of Condensed Matter - Superconductivity and graphene, especially models involving electron-phonon interactions and strong correlation.

Theory of quantum simulators and optical lattices.

Teaching interests

I have written material for a wide range of Open University modules. This included chapters on special relativity for the level 3 module 'The Relativistic Universe' (S383), development of the Compton scattering investigation for 'Practical Science' (S288), development of the online quantum physics material for 'Physics: From Classical to Quantum' (S217) and I am currently part of the module team that is developing a new 60 point integrated science module for level 1 students. Other major teaching duties included chairing the core 60 point level 2 module 'The Physical World' (S207). I attained Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in 2014.
