Profile summary

Professional biography

I am the SEPnet Outreach and Public Engagement Officer for the School of Physical Sciences.

My background is in Geology and Space Sciences, having completed my undergraduate degree at Durham University followed by a PhD at Edinburgh University. Following this, I completed two post-docs with the Open University, working on the chemical analysis of comet and asteroid samples where I was also Laboratory Manager for the NanoSIMS.

Having moved away from research to focus on writing and science communication, I have published my first popular science book Catching Stardust: Comets, Asteroids and the Birth of the Solar System and I am writing a second one called Fire & Ice: Space Volcanoes, whilst occassionally writing freelance popular science articles. I also work as a science host for StarTalk Radio. My most recent project is as a writer for the new Space Show at the planetarium of the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
