Dr Basiro Davey: HEAT Deputy Director (Ethiopia)

Role

Developing training materials and leading intensive curriculum design and writing workshops in Ethiopia with over 50 Ethiopian health experts from a range of specialisms, including epidemiology, public health, obstetrics, communicable diseases and long-term conditions. The workshops develop individual and collective capacity to produce well-structured, clearly illustrated modules for tutor-supported study by Ethiopia’s rural Health Extension Workers. Academic editing of the modules and contributing additional interactive elements, photographs, diagrams and self-assessment questions are key aspects of my role. Participating in the training workshops for around 100 tutors, supervisors and officials from six Ethiopian regions, and writing tutor-marked assignments testing students’ knowledge across the curriculum, are among my contributions to implementing the programme in Ethiopia.
