Dr Richard Holliman

Open University Champion for Public Engagement with Research

Home page

I am the Open University's (OU) Champion for Public Engagement with Research, and Senior Lecturer in Science Communication. Through my research, teaching and public engagement work at the Open University (OU), UK, I explore the ways that academic research is communicated via a range of media and genres, and how ideas about (upstream) public engagement with research may be shifting and extending social practices.

I have overall operational responsibility for co-ordinating and leading all aspects of the OU's Catalyst for Public Engagement With Research project, and helping to shape the university's strategic objectives for public engagement with research.

In 2009 I co-published two edited collections that explore aspects of science communication and public engagement:

I have also worked on the following research projects:

And I led the production of a postgraduate module in science communication as part of the Open University's MSc in Science and Society and the Postgraduate Diploma in Science and Society.
