The MP-Scientist Pairing Scheme of the Royal Society aims to build bridges between some of the best research workers in the country and members of the UK parliament. The scheme comprises three activities: a briefing by the Royal Society, a Week in Westminster, and reciprocal visits to the constituency office and the laboratory.

I participated in this scheme in which I shadowed Mr Kelvin Hopkins (MP for Luton North) for 4 days at the houses of Parliament and in his constituency to learn about the daily working life of an MP. In return, the MP visited our University to gain first hand experience in daily working life of a scientist. I found this experience very rewarding and I look forward to participate in similar schemes in the future.
