Is any one starting this course in Feb? I'm quite looking forward to it, as it is very different to what i usually study.

Hi Jodie, Don’t worry about this course its brilliant, you will receive all you need soon I expect. I got an honors degree in psychology with the OU, then did A174. If you do your exercises and get involved in the blogs anything can happen. Here is my story, after writing the first chapter for a novel in my A174 Start Writing Fiction course I used this actual chapter to write a full novel. I have now had two novels published from that one A174 chapter. My first Historical romantic thriller novel ‘Viking Sword Saxon Shield’ featured in Amazons top ten historical thriller top 100 and has sold around the world. As sales had been good my publishers released my second novel in the series ‘Vikings Saxon Holocaust, this has also reached the top 100 in both the U.K. and U.S. You see if I an old Romani with sparse early formal education can get my books published you can to if you want it enough! Looking forward to receiving the course info. Am wondering if there's any reading prep etc we could be doing in the meantime?!
Should be an interesting few weeks.

Hi Mabel,
When surfing through the OU web site, I found there was a "taster" introduction to A714. Here is the url. If you click on this it should take you to the taster course.
I think this is based on A174. Anyway I thought I would give it a go to try and get ahead a little bit.
Hope that helps.

Hi Neil
Great advice - you're absolutely right OpenLearn offers the chance to try out courses for free so this will give you an idea of what is ahead.
Mabel - you might also like to have a look in the published authors group as there are lots of past students who have now written books and you might pick up some good tips.
Hope you both enjoy the course!

Hello everyone I too am looking forward to this course. It will cheer me up during the most depressing days of the winter, and hopefully keep me so occupied that I'll stay away from the fridge and lose some weight,
Lucie

Hello!
Nice to see we are already interacting with one another. I am also starting the course in Feb and look forward to it. This is my first OU course, so I don't really know what to expect, but I have done an online vocational course before. Anyway, it all sounds great and I can't wait to get started.
