Me too!  Have had a look through the module companion already.  Looks like it's mostly English and I'm a history girl, but as I guess a lot of history is written in English, prose, poetry and plays etc I think I will get plenty out of it!

Hi Christina

I have just completed the exam for this course a resit due to illness. I am most definately an English Language girl ! This course is great and it shows you where literature and history overlap. I really enjoyed it and the assignments (apart from the Wiki )were not that difficult. It is a good way to get your teeth into plays, prose, and poetry.

I would suggest reading through Hard Times before you have to analyse it in terms of language, stucture, and plot etc. The DVDs were great and very interesting even if you are not that interested in the particular subject.

Enjoy!

Hi :)

Recieved my coursework and materials and maybeee I'm being slightly thick, but wheres the assignment booklet? I havent had time to completely read through it, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction?

I just finished AA100 and am so looking forward to this one, as I'm much more of an English girl than an Art or History! Was such a slog to get through the last one!

Anyway, hope to hear from you!

Thanks for the tips Edwina! It does seem interesting and I am loving reading Hard Times!  I love Dickens' power of expression.

Sarah, the assignment booklet will be available online when the website opens on Wednesday.  I beleive the OU have stopped posting them out now.  It's a bit of a pain as you really do need to print them I think.  Cost cutting I guess!

Lets hope we all enjoy it!

Chrissy

 Hiya,

I picked up my copy of Hard Times today. It actually feels real now. I am nervous about this course, because of both the Wiki assignment and the exam. Does anyone know where exams take place? Also what the wiki assignment is like?

It's nice to meet you all :)

Hello Everyone,

I have received the course matrerials in the post and have read Kate Flint's introduction to Hard Times. Like some others, I'm a bit nervous about what's in store, but looking forward to the challenge nonetheless.

In Bristol, where I live, during the first two weeks of November, there is a musical version of Hard Tmes being performed by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School students who, over the years have produced many exellent shows, so if anyone lives in Bristol or within striking distance, then I'm sure it would be well worth a look.

The perfomance is to be staged at The Tobacco Factory, and there are full details available on the theatre website.

Nice to meet eveyone, and the best of luck to one and all.

Cheers

Albert

Hi Albert,

Thanks for this top tip for people in Brighton. Why don't you post it as an event to your group to make sure it isn't missed by anyone?

Best,

Roz from the Alumni team
