I'm Jo, 21, mum of one, starting AA100 in October, based in Milton Keynes. Slightly apprehensive about starting Uni, I was beginning to think it wasn't going to happen so decided this year is my year! I dropped out of my A levels two weeks in, still felt like a kiddie going to school and at the time wasn't in the right mindframe for studying so this is my first shot at a qualification since 2006 when I finished my GCSE's.
I said I'm a mum of one, I have a little boy called Adam, he's 18 months and going through his "terrible two's" early, luckily I have a great boyfriend who has promised to take him out and stuff so I can study easier.
Good luck and I hope to meet some of you soon!
Jo.

Peter and Kirstie, I'm from Manchester, so thats pretty northern, ha. I'm 22 and starting the course too. I'm just getting grips of the forum side of OU before I start studying. I'm doing this course with a journalist career in mind. After doing a few work experiences I'm ready to start my education again. Looking forward to work with you all in the near future, and if anyone wants to say hello please feel free. I would appreciate some friendly banter. :)
Speak to you all soon.

Hello everyone.
My name is Katrina. I'm 19 years old and live in East Kilbride. I have been out of school for a year and since then I have been studying Admin at my local college. My course has now finished and I am looking to do something a bit more challenging!
I have a physical disability, so the Open University is perfect for me as it means I can study what I want without the irritation of travelling every day and navigating obstacles that I would almost certainly encounter in a traditional university.
I am very much looking forward to studying The Arts Past and Present and I intend to do BA (Hons) History after this. I know it will take me many years to complete but I am very dedicated and this subject interests me a lot.
Looking forward to studying with you all in October!
I diddn't realise there was a platform for young people but I'll check it out.

Hi Everyone
I'm Andrea, I'm a busy working mum of 2 beautiful daughters, living near York. I turned 40 this year I wanted to do something with my life. I didn't like school when I was there, but since having my children and now working as a teaching assisstant in school, I love learning.I wanted to take my learning further. The furtherest I've got is a Higher Level Teaching Assisstant Status so any help and words of encourgement would be grateful.
I've just received my mailing this morning and trying to navigate the website!I go to the home page but can't see to go any further then open learn. Can't find tutor details, Materials Despatch,Study Calendar etc. Am I too early?
I checked tonight and it looks like the Tutor Details, Study Calender etc will be available on the Modules section from 21st September onwards.
I also received my delivery today and have made a start reading the study companion.

My box of goodies landed today and I've been in a state of panic ever since. Don't know whether to read the contents or build an extension with it all !! I'm just waiting for my anxiety to fluctuate back to excitement, this seems to be my cycle of emotions ever since I registered !!

Hi Everyone
Just received the box containing the course material last night. I was away with my family, so it had to be re-delivered. It took me a few hours before I decided to open it. Must admit, It came to quite a shock as I don't really have a clue on where to start. Starting to get quite nervous now!

Emma Broxton - Wed, 17/08/2011 - 11:16
Hi all, I'm new to the open uni and it took me ages to decide on a course, but I felt my heart belonged to this course, so that is what I chose.
I've only just registered, so haven't had my daunting box of materials yet, and I only hope that I'm not overwhelmed as it seems many of you are.
I've already started aquiring the set texts and dvd, I've already read through The Burial At Thebes and done a few notes in the vain hope that it helps me in the long run with this course.
So far I'm excited and only a little nervous, so hopefully full blown nerves don't catch up with me.

David Brooks - Wed, 17/08/2011 - 13:03
Hello everybody,
Like most of you on the forum, I have signed up for the AA100 starting on October 2011, and received all my goodies by post yesterday.
This is my first attempt to return to education since leaving school quiet a few years ago, and I thought it would be daunting for me, but in reality, I'm very excited about the challenge, it looks from first impressions of the course materials that there's a lot of very interesting information to learn and I'm really looking forward to diving into the course.
I only briefly reviewed the material last night, but at this stage I haven't got a clue where to start, and the first assignment is going to be a big test for me.
I think given the fact that we are all most likely at different levels starting off here that we could use this forum to help each other as much as possible, as it's not an exam based course.
Anybody who feels they could benefit from discussing the material and maybe batting ideas around get in touch, we will see if we can help each other out.
Best of luck to everybody.

The highlighting and annotate function will be invaluable! I did my last degree in the early to mid 90s so no computers, just photocopiers and highlighter pens! I'm not sure if this will turn into a degree or not. If I do once 60 credit module a year then it will take me 6 years! I signed up to do this after looking at the Creative Writing module and that recommended starting with this. I think I'll keep my options open for now as this might lead me to completing a Literature degree or Humanities degree. Looking forward to 21st September when the course site opens and things begin!

Hi I arrived home late last night from Austria and picked up my study materials this morning from a neighbour. I already have the set books. Once the fog of tiredness etc has cleared I mean to dig into the study companion/assignments and so on. I'm a little daunted but excited at the same time. Funnily enough, I received a call from OU a fortnight ago. At the time, I was at the Tiroler Volkskunst Landesmuseum in Innsbruck (I'd also been at the Ferdinandeum where an exhibition of mediaeval religious art and artefacts was being displayed).
Last week I went round the Peggy Guggenheim museum in Venice but the place was absolutely crowded so didn't get the full benefit.

Hi everyone.
I am using my full time mum time to attempt a degree in history. I live in Milton Keynes and have two boys 1 and 6. I have unpacked the materials and made a start. I have completed Y180 The openings course to the Arts and Perspectives on Leonardo da Vinci but this is my first big course.
I have broken out the highlighters and started marking up the passages for TMA01 not sure of my plan of attack yet though Derek. I think I will stick with Pultarch, Horace and Cassius Dio as suggested in the Assignment Book. I like the fact we can review this on Assignment. I have moved on to Faustus which did seem intimidating at first but grew on me suprisingly quickly.
I am trying to get a bit ahead in case anything goes wrong. I know a pessimistic point of view but it is better to be prepared I find.
Derek Baines - Fri, 19/08/2011 - 12:01
