Hey everyone,I start course Y180 in september of this year,i havnt studied since i was at college so im hoping this course will ease me in nicely and prepare me for the next two courses i plan on taking after.

I did give the thestudentroom a go but to be honest it was exactly how i expected it to be,this forum seems much more relaxed, mature and at an easy pace.

Im 23 years old,im back living with my parents for the time being,i hate the smell and taste of Liver and i think Paul Weller is a genius. That pretty much sums me up!

Good luck everyone,i hope you all pass with flying colours!

Hi everyone,

Started the Y180 in June and my tutor tells me there is a forum up and running for it. All I can find is this one, which seems to mainly consist of postings prior to commencing the course. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Currently in the midst of the TMA 02.

Hi Gail

Yes, Platform is a social site but not part of any module. I think there is a Y180 module forum which you should be able to get to from the Y180 module website, this is probably what your tutor is referring to. If you can't find the link on the module website, contact your tutor.

All the best with your study

Hi everyone,

Not starting Y180 untill Nov but will be interested in reading your comments from now-on and will be doing some general reading in the next few weeks eg Chartism and the suffragettes-can`t wait to get started.I am retired but really want to get my brain working again!! My main worry is whether I can deal with the computor side of the course.Shirley

Christine Watts - Sat, 03/09/2011 - 21:21

Hello Everyone,

I am starting Y180 in November. Now I have finally "done the deed" I have the same worries as everyone else-will I be able to get back into study after such a long time; will I be able to balance full time working with study, should I even be attempting this!!? all those niggling doubts that it seems most people have.  I have only signed up for Y180 at the moment-test the water- but ultimately I would love to work towards a degree.  We shall see.

Would love to hear from anyone who has completed Y180 and to benefit from any hints and tips.  I am trying to read up about the Suffregettes and the Chartists in preperation. Anything else I should be doing??

Hello I am starting in November too! Bit nervous as I've not studied for years, and have 4 children to look after too. (Including quite a young one!!) - would love to also know if there is anything good to start reading up on before the start date!

Hi all,

I am looking to start the A100 module - the arts past and present, and I haven't actually studied since college and that was back in 2004! Is it a good idea to take this module first to "test the waters"? I'm pretty scared on embarking on my first academic journey for seven years!! Help?!?

Andrew Clark - Tue, 06/09/2011 - 10:13

Hi All

Ive just signed up to start Y180 in November. Im really looking forward to it - i've been dithering for the last 12 months as to whether I was up to University level study but i've always felt I missed out on the opportunity to further my education when I left school back in 1988.

Ive started doing some background reading on Chartism and the Suffragettes. Ive also found a couple of 'Vidcasts' on YouTube which relate to essay writing for Y180. They are presented by a chap called Nick Cott, who I assume is an OU Tutor. If you just type in Y180 into the search and it should return this as one of the results.

Im reassured to read that other people have the same concerns but I think we all share the same enthusiasm to give it a go . Look forward to speaking with you.

I'm considering starting Y180 in November. I'm interested in all (most) things art and I love learning, but have always hated writing essays! Am I mad to do this? If anyone has experience of this course, I'd be grateful for any info/advice. Thanks.

Hello everybody!

Just want to say how great it is reading all these positive comments and responses.

I hope to be starting the Y180 course in November.

It's the first step of what I hope will be a long and rewarding journey.

Cheers to us!

Hi, I am starting in November too! Think I must be a little mad seeing as I have just had my 4th baby (4months old now) - eek!

Not studied for years, so big leap!

Gabriella Bush - Sat, 17/09/2011 - 17:04

Hello everyone. :)

I too will be starting Y180 in November with the aim of working towards a History Degree. I am so very nervous as my recent A-Levels didn't go too well and I am worried about being able to follow and keep up with the course.

Does anyone have any advice?

Hi

I am starting Y180 in November too. I am not very good at expressing myself so it may be a challenge.

I have already completed a Science and two Maths modules, but they only have a right answer so this is going to be so different.

I am working towards an Open Degree and can't wait to get started now.

Looking forward to 'working' with you all

Karen

Hi I enrolled on the September course of Y180 - I am just on the History Module of the course at the moment.  I just wondered what choices people have made about what to study next if you are going on to further study with the OU.  I am just considering the issue myself so it would be nice to have your feedback!  I have also started a new thread for people on my course today.
