Just thought I'd point out that registration for the last ever chemistry residential - SXR344 in 2012 -opens this coming Tuesday, 19th July.

If in doubt - go for it! Residentials are great (hope I'll still be saying that after 2 weeks solid of them starting to tomorrow...)

Are the OU doing away with ALL chemistry residentials??? I graduated nearly 4 years ago in Molecular Science, so I am a bit out of touch with recent changes. I had to complete 3 to get my degree.

The Molecular Science degree is disappearing after 2014, as are all other named science degrees, to be replaced by the new "Natural Sciences" degree. This is associated with all science residentials above SXR103 being done away with, and being replaced by a new 30 point 2nd level course called SX*288. which has a whole lot of stuff in it (much of which isn't actually central to to the science concerned. Ut "interdisciplinary"). In the chemistry one, there is an option (not compulsory) to do a long weekend residential only.

Yes, this all stinks. I'm so glad I'm in time to get the proper resis in. But the OU were apparently losing something in the region of £1000 per student running them, so not sustainable
