I'm starting the Early Years & Primary pathway, starting in October.

Starting with the module E111 (Supporting learning in Primary Schools). I'm looking forward to getting started too :-)

Kathy Sellick - Tue, 14/08/2012 - 16:04

Hi Leanne, I'm doing the same course as you in Oct, I'm much older and have children your age!! But would love to keep in touch as we do the course. I work in a day nursery in Worcestershire where I have been for 5 years, before that I was a TA in primary schools.

You sound busy with 2 children, but it will be a great way to have a career while the children are young.

Speak soon,

Kathy

Leanne Davis - Tue, 14/08/2012 - 19:48

Hi Leanne, Not on Facebook (too old!!) I've just been given my student loan, yay, will hopefully be getting some study materials soon. Have you got yours through yet? It threw me as they awarded me £5k for this year and I'm only doing that 60 credit module which costs 2,500k but when I phoned they explained that if I chose to do 2 modules then the funds were in place, yikes, don't think so... Anyway, getting excited now!

Oana Visterneanu - Sat, 18/08/2012 - 00:10

Hi there! I'm hoping to start a course in october as well, if I get a loan from Student Finance anddd I sure hope I will!

I received the study materials today and i am sooooo excited! I'mm 22, don't have any kids of my own, but I've worked around children basically all my life and I can't see my self doing something else! by the way, any of you know what happends if I don't get the loan? do i have to return the materials?

say more about you, girls

Kathy Sellick - Mon, 20/08/2012 - 20:31

The more about me Oana is that I've worked in schools and nurseries for many years, I have children your age! (2 girls 1 boy) and out of somewhere came the need for me to complete a degree! My daughter graduated last year and my other daughter is in her 3rd year as a vet student so I thought I'd join in.

Great to get intouch,

Kathy

Kathy Sellick - Mon, 20/08/2012 - 20:22

Hi Oana, I'm studying E100 Childhood studies from October and had to apply for a loan and give my CRN number (which comes from student finance) to OU before they send any materials, they are 2 organisations so you have to get that number from them and send it by post along with permission form and agreement form. For a 60 credit module it's a loan of £2500.

I'd like to keep in touch if you continue with your studies, BTW !

hi,, my name is stevie, im 26,,mum to 3 girls aged 2,5,7 and work 25hrs a wk in a nursery, married for 5 yrs to my partner of 11 yrs,

i am also doing the BA hons in childhood and youth studies i chose the k101 as my 1st module,, i too got awarded 5k for this year and i am tempted to add another module the e100 on top but am worried about not having the time to do them both,,

I would love to hear from people too who are doing this course too,, im wondering how im going to juggle this with my home life and work too,,

Kathy Sellick - Fri, 24/08/2012 - 18:49

Hi Stevie, That's an idea, see how the one module goes and if you are ok you could add on the other 60 credit one in Feb. I'm thinking for myself 60 credits will be enough as I've not studied for ages and work around 30 hours a week, but you may find you can handle the 2. Good luck anyway,

Kathy

Zoe Harris - Tue, 06/11/2012 - 20:17

Hi Stevie, I have just enroled on the same course/module as you. My story is quite similar to yours too. I have four children, 11, 10, 9 and 7. Been with my partner for 13 years and married for 4 of them. I work 32 hours a week as a special need teaching assistant in a primary school.

How have you found this module so far and managing work and study together? I start mine in February 2013 and would love to hear how its working for you.

Zoe.

Natalie A - Wed, 22/08/2012 - 11:48

I'm starting with a 60 credit module in October and then going to see how it goes.

There are February starts to modules so that might be something to think about.

Sophia Rattray - Wed, 22/08/2012 - 14:23

Hi there,

My name id Sophia i'm 29 and I live in Kent.  Im also starting in October with the E111 and very much excited.  My loan from student finance came through on Monday, and I got my course materials today!! All seems so real now!

I am a full time mum with a 5 year old starting primary next month, a one year old and a baby due December, so as you can see I'm gonna have my hands full, but I would love to keep in touch with other busy mums like myself as I am slightly nervous how i'm going to cope!!

looking forward to a busy but sucessfull year with you all!  x

Kathy Sellick - Fri, 24/08/2012 - 18:45

Hi All,

Sounds like there will be a few of us to keep in touch, great!

Sophia, you do sound busy but Im sure you will fit it all in as you will enjoy having 'your time' to sit and study when the little ones are being looked after!

I read in the newspaper about a woman actually giving birth as her final exams were taking place so she sat them in the maternity ward and passed with a first!! How fab is that?!

Really want my course materials now to see what's in store for me!

Take care all

Kathy
