Hi,

My name is Zoe and I am currently working as a special needs teaching assistant in a primary school. I have just enroled to start studying BA Childhood and Youth Studies starting February 2013. Its something I have wnated to do for a long time now and I have finally plucked up the courage at the age of 29.

I was wondering if anyone has found this a struggle with working and studying? I also have four children under the age of 12 at home too.

Hey,
My name is Kim, I am not doing BA Childhood and Youth Studies, but am doing BA/BSc Health and Social Care; Children and Families Pathway which also starts with K101 in February.

I currently work with adults/children who have learning difficulties, disabilities or mental health conditions in a Domiciliary service. I attended university for a few weeks earlier in the year, but couldn't cope and it was suggested that I try the OU so that I can apply theory to practice as I learn.

I definitely salute you for working, studying and having 4 children to care for! I find it tricky balancing study, work and a social life having previously done it to get my NVQ 3.

Hiya,

My name is Nicole. I am starting BA/BSc Health & Social care with the K101 course in february. I don't work in this job at the moment but have wanted to for a while. Decided at 27 i should really give myself a shake & do something about it.

I am worried about fitting studying & working in as im due back at work in April from being on maternity leave. I also have 3 kids under 6!!

Im sure we will manage though, with plenty of multi tasking lol.

There is also a K101 group on facebook if anyone fancys joining it.

Hi my name is Shan, I was feeling worried at first about managing it all, but after accessing the OU introduction and spending time looking throught the Study skills site on OU I feel really prepared now, I doubt it will be easy because I am juggling work, home life (1 small child) with studying, but I am actually also quite excited to be starting this Childhood and Youth Studies degree in Feb 2013. I chose the early years pathway. I am trying to find out where I can buy the K101 books for a reasonable price...any suggestions?

Anyway, if anyone wants to be study buddy let me know, its good to have a support network in these types of situations.

Hi

Im also starting the K101 course in February and have found that Waterstones do the books for under £20, which is cheaper that what is quoted for the course materials. Ive also found in the past that play.com can be very reasonable for course books.

Hope this helps!!! :)

 Hi,

I was wondering if anyone is taking up the option of doing an NVQ3 alongside K101?  I remember reading that this is a possibility.

Can't wait for the course materials to arrive!

Happy New Year to all,

Anna

Hi.

Well done to all of you starting the course who are working and have young children! I'm worrying enough about getting all the work done and I don't have children and only work school hours, eekkk.

Hopefully I will relax abit when the course materials arrive.

Good luck everyone :)

Collette

Hi everyone, my name is Dawn.  I am studying BA Childhood and Youth Studies starting in February.  My first module is K 101.  I am a bit nervous because i have never done an OU course before, i received my course material a couple of days ago and it looks a bit overwhelming, but i am sure once i get started it will all make sense.

Good Luck to you all :)

Hi everyone.

Im starting K101 in Feb too. I was quite nervous initially, but having read quite a bit of the introductory pack and many of people's comments here I'm feeling more positive about it. Good luck to us all. Alan :)
