Hi there,
Just wanted to let people know about an e-petition which is currently gathering support, to fight government funding cuts, particularly for the OU. We have a support group on Facebook but I'm aware not everybody wishes to use Facebook! Here's the link...
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/5993
Please pass on to any OU students - past, present or future and let's try and preserve this wonderful institution for the next generation.
Many thanks
Julia

The petition currently has over 1600 signatures on it, and that number is going up all the time.
£5,000 a year to take an OU degree course. It represents a big increase in current fees which are set at around £1,800 a year. The OU has not always been the traditional choice of undergraduates. But it's given the oppurtunity for people who otherwise couldn't for one reason or another study at universities made from brick uni's. Courses are distance learning.Saying that, the university is the largest single HE institution in the country and, according to a BBC news report, younger students taking degrees with the institution increased by a third last year. Is the increase Is the where we eventually see the 'Open' taken from , The 'Open University'?
This petition needs to be put on other forums and much given greater coverage. I believe you need 100,000 votes. I believe the vast number of students don't even know this petition exists. How about putting it in the OU magazine? Martin lewis website. etc. This petition needs a push.
I only happened upon the petition because I was signing another petition on the Downing street website.
The e-petiton has 3,561 signatures, hope for 100,000 by summer 2012 (fingers crossed)
I work for the University & College Union branch at the OU and we created the ePetition in November 2011 - thanks to support from OUSA we are now up to 57,800 signatures as of today, 18 September. However the deadline for reaching 100,000 signatures is 11th November - please circulate the link to any mailing lists that you have access to: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22316
