I am pretty sure you can only sit exams at home if you have special circumstances, normally you will have to travel to a specified location to sit your exam (I have done this numeorus times)
I have checked the New to OU Study > FAQs just off my student home page for the official answer & it states:
How far will I have to travel to take an exam?
We have many centres across the UK where you can sit exams and you will be allocated your nearest centre. If you have a problem with your allocation, contact your Learner Support Team. Language students who live in a Continental Europe Scheme country will be contacted about their exam alocation.
Are exams ever taken online?
No. They are always set at an examination centre.

Students with disabilities can sit exams at home or in the home of family/friends if necessary. There are some publications on the OU's disabilities page, I suggest reading the pdf "Meeting your assessment needs" if you think you should be able to sit your exam at home.
This depends on the type of module you're taking. I suggest getting in contact with the Disability Resources Team to find out if you qualify.

Another place to look at would be Where to take your exams (disability page).
