Welcome to the Platform Book Club, where you can talk all things books. Join our bi-monthly book club review and read our chosen title for a chance to win £20 in book vouchers; talk about books you’ve read, liked, hated, have yet to read; books you’ve written, your favourite authors or genres or characters. It’s an open book, so to speak. Here you can post links to articles of interest, recommend book bloggers or chat in the book-themed forums.

Which author will you NEVER read?

Ok, I know this is the Book Club forum and we should be interested in any and all genres but there are some authors that I will never, ever, ever read.

What is the RAREST book you've ever read?

Rare in the sense that you had never seen it before, have never seen it since, have never met anyone who has read, or even heard of it, before.

Favourite Graphic Novel

Well, I´m hammering to finish my TMA2 for A363, but I´m disappointed that the course doesn´t include writing scripts for comics.

Who are your favourite authors?

Mine have to be Terry Pratchett (such a shame he´s poorly), Iain M Banks, and Robert Jorden (I just wish he had finished the last of his works), Although I own at least one copy of all TP´s books and

Which books have you not liked but felt you should have?

I read On the Road and whereas I have read similar books and loved them. I couldn´t really enjoy this one. Maybe I will if I go back to it in later life.

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

I´m just coming to the end of this book (1075 pages)... I was recommended this by a couple of book lover friends and I put it off for so long because they told me it was about building a cathedral.

What did you read most recently?

The book which I have just finished reading was ´Gulag´, by Anne Applebaum. A history of the concentration camps of the Soviet Union from the end of 1917 to the present day, it is a truly horrific story of cruelty, barbarity and stupidity, and the desparate lengths people will go to to survive when everything is taken from them, and the inhuman lengths a totalitarian state, under the absolute control of a psychopathic madman, Stalin, will go to to ensure his will is absolute. The book is a warning to us all, yes, even to we innocent readers, that eternal vigilance is the price we must all pay to ensure our freedoms. Couldn´t happen here? Don´t be too sure. We are just going into a depression, and anything can happen, anything! Trust that nice Mr Brown, well....?

Which book changed your life?

Mine has to be The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje. It gave me the momentum to do some travelling, which totally changed me life.
