Hi, I'm Ian from near Exeter.  I'm a carer for my disbaled son and I've just signed up with the OU (Y166) with a view to getting a Law degree in my spare time.  Long time since I've studied but they say that life begins at 40!

Hello you two,

I would just like to say I did Y166 in 2009 and found it an absolutely great course to start off with!

Good luck x

Emma Jones - Tue, 23/08/2011 - 09:30

 Hi!

I took Y166 last September and loved every minute of it! So much so that I am planning to take W100 next February!

I have just signed up to take Making Sense of the Arts starting in November to keep me busy until then!

For anyone who is starting their first Openings course after a long break from study, take it from one who knows, you will thoroughly enjoy it, the tutors are amazingly supportive and you will gain a huge amount of confidence.

Good luck and best wishes

Emma

David Malka - Thu, 22/09/2011 - 21:29

Hi, I'm David from near Glasgow.  44 years young with a degree in French from years back.  Just signed up for W150 and W100 and can't wait to get started!  Already getting ready to start sitting in on court cases as from next week (can you say 'premature, dude'??)!  The OU LLB is English law, but that's cool as I'll just move to England - a country I've always loved.

Judith Loughlin - Sun, 25/09/2011 - 20:39

Hi everyone, I'm the same as Jessica, studying Y166 in Nov then starting W100 in Feb. I'm 24, have just started my 4 year old off at primary school and think I should be setting her a good example with regard to education, as I left school with no GCSEs due to ill health. Still got a 2 year old at home with me in the day so this first year is going to be very hectic for me! Hope those of you who started Y166 in Sept are enjoying it, I am really annoyed I missed the deadline to sign up for that one!

Jessica Campling - Mon, 26/09/2011 - 22:03

I feel exactly the same about the cut off date Judith, but suppose it is positive that we will be carrying on straight away. Is anyone else doing 2 modules at once? x

David Malka - Tue, 27/09/2011 - 00:33

Yes, I'm doing W150 and W100.  The former starts in about a month (give or take), and then it'll be W100 as from February 2012.  So that means nine tutor-marked essays from now until next year.

By the way, does anyone have an idea as to how long W100 lasts?  That is, if the course starts on 4 February, when does it end?

Clair Hopson - Tue, 25/10/2011 - 18:30

Hey David.

I'm Clair and I've just finished the Y166 but am due to start the W100 and the L185 in Feb, 90 credits at the same time YIKES!. The W100 finishes in the November I believe.

Danielle Bates - Tue, 27/09/2011 - 19:36

Hey everyone i'm starting the Y166 in November with the view to starting the degreee course in Feb! I'm still not too sure on how all this works, kinda scary! :P  Emma - what study materials do you get for this course as it is only a few month course?

Clair Hopson - Tue, 25/10/2011 - 18:31

Hi Danielle

I've just finished the Y166 hun, you get a module book, your planner, assessment guide book, a DVD and all in a nice OU zip up folder.

I got my stuff a month before the course started.

Hope this helps xxxxx

Danielle Bates - Tue, 27/09/2011 - 19:54

Also has anyone had their log in details yet? because at present i'm just signed in as guest i think! At present I have just had my acceptance letter with my Personal Identifier but not any log in details? can anyone help?

Jessica Campling - Tue, 27/09/2011 - 21:44

the W100 finishes in october i believe. x

David Malka - Mon, 03/10/2011 - 21:30

Thanks for that, Jessica.  After an e-mail exchange with the OU, 'turns out my first degree can earn me 120 points, so I'm now registered for W200 instead of W100.  Happy days!  Although a bit apprehensive...

Patrick O'neill - Mon, 03/10/2011 - 19:44

Anyone in or visiting the area, feel free to drop me a line .

Nici Griffin - Fri, 25/11/2011 - 16:23

Hi,

Nici from London here.  Am finishing up my NEBOSH Diploma in January and then will be starting on W100 in Feb 2012 with an eventual aim to working as an in-house lawyer for my company.

Have never studied with OU before but after watching my mom complete a Masters (at 60) and now doing a second one with OU (at 65!!) I decided that was a good enough vote for me :o)

Just exploring my way around the site right now so hopefully won't be too lost in Feb.  Really looking forward to getting some 'study buddies' to help keep me on track ... kind of give each other mutual kick up the backsides if we start slacking kind of thing ;o)

Good luck everyone,

Nici
