W200 - info please, how much reading?
Could anyone who has studied W200 recently and still has their course materials:
Please post here how much reading there is - including study guide, set books, case studies, whatever else compulsory (not the 'extra' reading that some students seem to do on some courses).
I know my own reading speed for various types of materials...and that the OU estimate of 16 hours a week for 60-point Yr2/Yr3 (I'm not new to the OU) modules is usually wildly under-estimated.
Yes, I actually need to know - and would be very grateful if anyone can tell me - how many pages!
Thanks and good luck with your studies,
A

Hi Amie, I'm doing the W100 and the W200 and all my books for the W200 has turned up beofre the other ones so it's a bit stressful!
The books that OU send are;
Blackstone's Statutes EU treaties and legislation 2012-2013
The College of Law Manual 1 and 2 "Understanding Law"
The English Legal System 13th edition 2012-2013 Gary Slapper and David Kelly
Cases and Material on EU Law 10th edition Stephen Weatherill
The Extra books that I've bought after being advised by a Law graduate from Cambridge are;
Blackstone's Statutes Public Law and Human Rights
Understanding Criminal Law 4th edition, CMV Clarkson
Clarendon Law Series An Introdution to Constitutional Law Eric Barendt
Understanding Law 4th edition John N Adams and Roger Brownsworth
Hope this is helpful!
It says 16 hours reading but I personally would read all the books through first and annotate them so that you are reasonably well versed in them and when the course starts you'll feel more confident.
Hi Rebecca. Are you actually doing two modules at a time? If yes do you find it difficult ? I'm going to start my W100 in October next year and wanted to do W200 as well. Not sure if I'll manage to do both. Also, if you started in October, studying ahead of plan, and finish buy February, can you start another module in February? I was told by OU adviser that you can do only 120 credits a year.
Hi Amie. I think, OU recommends to spend 16-18 hours on studying.
Hi,
I've just been through W200 and succeeded with a distinction.
I used the provided texts and manuals and also used the Law Express Revision Guides as both a light lead in to the course, providing an overview and familiarising myself with the concepts and terminology, and ultimately for revision. My tutor was pushing for us to use an alternative revision guide, but each to their own.
I would be loath to spend a great deal on additional texts especially when the OU tend to want you answer things in a particular way using the provided texts.
As to how many hours reading, this depends on your reading/understanding rate. I would average approximately 12 hours per week, but that's me, everyone is different.
Rgds
