New Student Charter website now live

Martin Bean (OU Vice Chancellor) and Marianne Cantieri (OUSA President)

The Student Charter, which has been developed jointly by University staff and the OU Students Association, was launched by the Vice Chancellor on 23 April 2013, the 44th anniversary of the granting of the University's Charter.

The Student Charter sets out how the members of the OU community – both staff and students – should work together so everyone can benefit from a shared set of values.

Our commitments are:

  1. As members of a welcoming and inclusive community we treat each other with dignity and respect.
  2. As members of an academic community we aim to inspire and enable learning.
  3. As student members of the community we share the responsibility for our learning.
  4. As members of a collaborative community we work together to secure the University’s mission and to promote the University’s values.

Today marks the launch of the Student Charter website. The website is where we bring these commitments together with the University’s policies, rules and resources that demonstrate how we deliver and support them. It also provides you with an opportunity to feed back to us how well you think we are doing.

If you have any ideas for how we can develop the website, please contact us using the feedback link. Your contributions are all welcome. As Vice Chancellor Martin Bean said: “It’s a vital document and it’s a living document, one that can and will be reviewed and continue to evolve as the world of education continues to change in the years to come.”
