I'm no photographer but isn't it amazing what beautiful images you can capture right outside your own front door. These are pictures taken last year on a freezing but sunny day at my local lake. I'd be interested to see what pictures other 'amateur snappers' capture near their own homes...

Hi!
They are beautiful pictures. Always a wonder to see wildlife in a natural habitat. The water looks so peaceful and it can be very hard to take shots of glistening water. Just pointing the camera through the window into the back garden can often capture a really good shot too. Hope to see some more pictures soon!

Thanks Louise, I think it was a bit of luck. It was a beautiful day and I was lucky enough to point and click the camera at the right time!
I like them both - good focus and composition - particularly the reflection in the ice and the sparkle on the water.
I am going to try to insert an image. If I don't succeed perhaps you could tell us how you did it.

At the moment I am seeing the location of the image rather than the image. On preview however I see the image so perhaps others will also.
It has been breakfasting in the river and is now drying out in the heat of the early morning sun. It is not too bothered by my approach but is nevertheless keeping an eye on me. (Taken on the banks of the Swann River, Perth)
