The OU's move to Online Delivery - views of Scottish students wanted

We are all affected by the O U's increasing use of the internet to deliver our module materials and resources. For some of us this is a welcome move but for others it is problematic and an increasing source of study stress. Perhaps you struggle with a slow broadband connection, find the cost of printing prohibitive or just miss receiving glossy module books.
Last year, O U S A in Scotland ran an online poll on the O U's social network site Platform asking whether students welcomed the move to online delivery of module materials. The results were rather surprising with 76% of respondents saying no, 18% saying yes and the remaining 6% saying it made no difference. This gives us a very clear message that a majority of students are not happy about this trend. What we don't know, however, is the reasons why. We can make a guess but what we really need is to hear from as many students in Scotland as possible as to what you like or don't like about online delivery.
We have put together a short online survey which will take approximately 5 - 10 minutes to complete. Please help us by registering and completing this survey at
We need as wide a range of views as possible so please help us by sharing your experiences (good and bad). The anonymous results from the survey will be used to produce a paper highlighting our findings that will be submitted to the O U in Scotland through its formal consultation process.
If you would like to contact us with your views, outwith the structure of the survey, please do so on executive@ousa-in-scotland.org.uk. If you are unable to complete the online survey (perhaps due to internet access problems) then get in touch either by email and we will send you a paper copy of the survey which you can return by post.
As this survey is being run by O U S A in Scotland please only respond if you are a student registered in Scotland. Students outwith Scotland who wish to comment on this issue should do so via OUSA in their own nation or region.
