The OU’s partnership with the BBC has been a long and fruitful one – and its 40th anniversary was celebrated on Wednesday (7 October) at a special reception held at the BBC Media Centre in White City.

George Entwistle, Controller BBC Knowledge Commissioning, spoke warmly of the relationship between the OU and the BBC, while OU Vice-Chancellor Martin Bean expressed his hope that the partnership would continue for at least another 40 years.

Among those attending the reception were the BBC’s Director-General Mark Thompson, Sir David Attenborough, who has been involved in many flagship BBC/OU co-productions including Charles Darwin and the Tree of Life, David Dimbleby, OU Chancellor Lord Puttnam and presenters of a number of BBC/OU co-productions including Bang Goes the Theory and Coast.
