I have no idea. I'm not very informed on these sort of things.

It's a horrible word isn't it? Perhaps Frugality would be a better one? The trouble with the affluent society that we have been enjoying for the last forty years or so, is that it is so terribly wasteful. Most people only eat half or less of the food they buy. If we were all forced (somehow) to be more frugal the cost of food would actually go down, certainly in comparison to other costs.
The point is that the way we are living now is unsustainable. I can remember a time when a whole family only filled one dustbin a week if that. And when if you wanted to get out of the house for a bit, you went for a walk. When rooms that weren't in constant use were left unheated. And when if you needed a workout you mowed the lawn with a handmower.
these things were actually done! I'm not making it up, no matter how unbelievable it sounds now. And yet it wasn't a terrible lifestyle. It wasn't grinding poverty. People were healthier and happier than they are now. We HAVE to find some way of going back to sustainable living, and if a monetary crisis real or blown up is the only way to do it, then so be it.
